‘Walk. Why Not?’ Ball to bring Walk On to Melbourne

Walk On client, Rod Watson is on a mission. Together with the help of his wife Danielle and their fantastic committee of friends and family, they are passionate about getting Walk On to Melbourne. The ‘Walk. Why Not?’ committee are holding a community fundraising event -

The ‘Glitz and Glamour Ball’ at CQ Melbourne on the 13th August, 2011.

Rod’s friends and family have seen first-hand the enormous physical, mental and emotional difference Walk On can have on a person with a spinal cord injury (SCI). They want not only Rod, but other Victorians affected by SCI to have access to this unique, life changing program no matter their location.

Walk On Melbourne – becoming a reality!

A major focus for SCIA in 2011 will be the opening of a Walk On facility in Melbourne. We are committed to investing the necessary funds to make this a reality. We plan to replicate the successful model used for Walk On in other states in Melbourne by utilising Exercise Science and/or Physiotherapy University students as part of the delivery of the program, as well as the involvement of the scientific and research community. We are in advanced stages of negotiations with a venue partner and hope to make announcements of this partnership in the coming months. We have a great deal of interest from people wishing to be considered in our staff selection process as well as a number of families working with us on a major fundraising activity soon to be announced. Visit this page for regular updates on Walk On in Melbourne or visit our Facebook page www.facebook.com/sciawalkon.

If you wish to become involved in any way, please contact us on walkon@scia.org.au
